Two extra steps – for added security
Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode give you greater security when shopping at webshops that have registered for this security standard.

This increased security consists of two elements:

1. Your Verified by Visa code/SecureCode, which you create yourself. This code ensures that only you can pay using your card, as would be the case if you were using your PIN at a physical merchant. You must not disclose your code to anyone.
   Using the code reduces the risk of other people fraudulently using your card. This increases the overall security of shopping on the Internet.
   
2. Your personal greeting that you create at the same time as the code. Your personal greeting will be displayed before you enter your code in order to make a transaction. Only PBS has a record of your personal greeting.
   
   If you are asked to enter your code on a website where your personal greeting is not displayed correctly, you should close the page without entering your code.

You must only enter your Verified by Visa code or MasterCard SecureCode for Internet transactions or if you subsequently want to change your code, and only if your personal greeting is displayed correctly.
